Can Scott Brown Save America?
5 CommentsOn January 19th Scott Brown, a Republican State Senator from Massachusetts, has a very good chance to beat out Democrat Martha Coakley for Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat – and to end the Democrats super majority in the Senate. Polls show Brown with a lead and health care bill weary independents are being marshaled to the polls to cast their vote for Brown.
If Brown is elected, he will be the 41st Republican vote and he can put the breaks on a runaway federal government, including stopping the passage of Obama’s health care bill.
Timing will be everything. The Democrats will not take Brown’s win sitting down and are already looking for ways to delay Brown’s chance to vote in the Senate if he does win. The Dems want to delay the election certification in Massachusetts as well as Brown’s swearing in to the Senate.
Brown’s election could also affect how moderate Democrats may vote on health care. Once the Republicans gain the vote to shut down the Democrats, several of the moderate Democrat Senators who are up for reelection in 2010 may consider the health care bill dead, change their vote and bow to the voices from their constituents by defecting from this highly controversial health care bill.
The opinions are running hot on Brown’s chances to win this election and the Democrats are highly mobilized to keep it from happening. Here’s a flavor of what’s going on as MA approaches their election.
